The Midlands Histories
Basic Setting Facts and Information
- There is no widely accepted name for the larger world of which the Vale is but a part. To most people, it is simply “the world”. Scholars and those more learned with regard to the relationship between Faerie and the Foundation usually call it “the middle world”, or “the middle land”.
- Books and paper are a rarity. Generally speaking, scrolls and small bits of parchment are easier to come by for most people. It’s rare for someone who is not a noble to have a book of any kind. Libraries are a luxury afforded only by significant wealth. Some schools of wizardry provide a small beginning spellbook, while others require students to purchase their own.
- Some of the more wealthy guilds and nobles may have access to Journeybooks, which magically copy whatever is written to a twin volume elsewhere.
