Adventuring Guilds

When small treasure and fame-seeking groups began to grow in number, and those groups began bothering villagers, upsetting the countryside, and generally being a nuisance, the lords and ladies of the Vale knew something had to be done. Clearly this was both a problem and perhaps something they could capitalize on, too. The first adventuring guild was thus founded in Corydon, ages ago. Others followed this lead and soon several guilds, each with its own noble family backing it, had been established.

That wasn’t enough, though. Now, those rogue bands of adventurers were not just an inconvenience; they were competition. This led to the passing of laws that made unsponsored adventuring illegal. The laws are loosely enforced, but any independent group that draws too much attention to itself is sure to draw the attention of the local authority.
